As learners, Tulanians are smart, engaged, and multidisciplinary. We have opportunities to learn in the classroom and out in the real world in ways students elsewhere only dream of. No other university has ever encountered the opportunities now before Tulane: To provide an undergraduate education of unequaled quality while engaging students in re-envisioning and rebuilding one of America’s best-loved cities.
This is a place where the resources of a large research institution are paired with the benefits of a smaller college – Tulane is one of the few research institutions in the country where almost all undergraduate courses are taught by full-time faculty. Small class sizes are the norm and Tulane faculty members are accessible and approachable.
Our size means you have a great deal of choice: there are over 75 majors and minors and more than 1,400 classes to choose from. Through the core curriculum, Tulane makes sure graduates are well rounded by exposing you to academic foundations in writing, foreign language, scientific inquiry, and cultural knowledge.
All students enter as undergraduates through the Newcomb-Tulane Undergraduate College and once you select a major, you’ll enroll in one of five undergraduate schools: Architecture, Business, Liberal Arts, Public Health and Tropical Medicine, and Science and Engineering. Yet because you still belong to one unified undergraduate college, it is not difficult to double major across schools.
Tulane’s commitment to engaging students with the world around them is manifested in the public service component of the curriculum. Through a combination of coursework and internships, you get the chance to blend intellectual exploration with personal growth in different ways depending on your area of academic interest.
Students who excel academically may participate in the Tulane Honors program to enrich their education with accelerated classes, special seminars, and an honors residence hall. Graduation with honors often leads to prestigious scholarships and fellowships for graduate study like the Rhodes, Marshall, Fulbright and Gates.
