A vibrant music scene, world-class restaurants, a rich confluence of cultures and traditions, and the opportunity to make a difference in the largest urban renewal project ever undertaken in our country: these are just a few of the unique characteristics that define our remarkable city.
Are you ready?
Tulane's campus is located in an area known as Uptown, near the Garden District, of New Orleans and is just a four mile street car ride away from downtown, so students have easy access to the city's vast cultural offerings. Distinctive museums, live music venues around every corner, hundreds of art galleries and nearly 900 restaurants are just the beginning of what you can find throughout the city. In addition, New Orleans hosts over 50 festivals every year. Some of the most famous festivals include the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, the French Quarter Festival, and, the most famous festival of all, Mardi Gras.
For professional sports fans, watching the Saints at the Superdome or checking out the Hornets at the Arena is a fantastic time. New Orleans frequently hosts nationally televised sporting events as well; events include the NBA All Star game, the Sugar Bowl and the upcoming 2013 Superbowl.
If you like the outdoors, Louisiana's "Sportsman's Paradise" has plenty to offer. Sailing on Lake Ponchartrain or fishing on Shell Beach are just some of the outdoor activities that Tulane students take advantage of. Students also frequent Audubon Park, one of the most beautiful city parks in the country which happens to be located right across the street from Tulane's campus. With a beautiful par 62 golf course, several athletic fields and ambling trails, the park is always alive with activity.
New Orleans is an endless provider for Tulane students, and it is only natural that students give back to the city on a regular basis. Helping rebuild New Orleans is part of the fabric of our institution. Students have been involved in nearly every aspect of New Orleans’ rebirth, and their efforts have made a tangible difference in the lives of others.
