Classical Studies

Classical Studies includes - in addition to the study of ancient languages (Latin, Greek, and Hebrew) - the study of Greek, Roman, and Near Eastern archaeology, ancient history, ancient religion (Greek, Roman, ancient Judaism, and early Christianity), and ancient culture. The programs of study in our department allow our majors both to sample broadly among our offerings and to concentrate in a particular field. We offer majors in Greek, Latin, and Classical Studies. In addition to language and literature courses, we offer many courses in translation, Egypt and the ancient Near East, mythology, Greek and Roman art and archaeology, Greek and Roman history, classical drama and epic, the ancient novel, early Christianity, ancient Judaism, Pompeii, Roman law, and the Roman family.
