Students studying English at Tulane study English literature and the intricacies of the English language. The English Department at Tulane offers courses in English and American literature, Caribbean literature, and African literature in translation. Tulane also offers courses in various theoretical approaches and methodologies used in the study of literature.
The program also focuses on developing each student’s skills in critical reading and writing. The English major is designed to enable students to acquire knowledge of, and an appreciation for, literature in its diversity, and to prepare students for a wide range of career paths. The Creative Writing track allows students who wish to pursue poetry and fiction writing to present their work in workshops and to meet a number of distinguished writers who visit campus every semester.
