Linguistics

Linguistics is the scientific study of language, the formal properties of sound systems, word forms, syntax, semantics, the acquisition of languages, the linguistic faculty, the history and social context of language variation and change, as well as the pragmatics of language use. Courses at Tulane emphasize hands/ears-on training in language description and analysis. These courses are spread across fifteen departments and programs.
