Hi! My name is José and I’m from La Isla del Encanto, Puerto Rico. I’m pursuing a major in Cell & Molecular Biology with a focus on Pre-med, as well as a minor in Psychology. I transferred to Tulane University for my junior year in Spring 2018. Before joining the Tulane family, I was attending a large state university in Puerto Rico. Even though I will always be a Gallito, after hurricane María, the worst hurricane in over 100 years of Puerto Rico’s history, it was time for a change. During this catastrophic event, the whole Island had to endure the harsh conditions that brings a category 5 hurricane, such as: loss of electricity, floods, food shortage, etc. With this at hand, I looked for alternative options for my education and found that Tulane was the perfect fit. Tulane offers an array of educational options and provides its students the flexibility to explore these options. Also, it also has over 100 student organizations. For example: I’m participating in Club Soccer, GENTE, Red Cross, and Tulane United for Autism. Moreover, the New Orleans location gives a different meaning to the full college experience. The people, the art, the food, the music and the architecture are all to die for. It’s a city in which you breathe the rich history and the stories that the city offers. Lastly, with the amazing staff at the Admission Office, the transfer process was a smooth and easygoing one; any concerns or doubts I had on anything they were always available and as amicable as person can be. Hope to see you all join the Green Wave family!
