Hi! My name is Mia Matos and I'm from Lithia, Florida. During my semester off, I stayed home and took classes at the college in my hometown. I went to boarding school in Massachusetts for all of high school, so my semester off was the longest period of time that I had been home for the past four years. I also held a part time job working with children in an after-school care program. At first, I was anxious staying home for the semester for classes as it seemed that everyone chose to study abroad for their semester off, but as soon as I got to orientation, I made friends very quickly with the NOLA Experience Orientation program.
My first time stepping on Tulane's campus was actually move-in day, so I was unsure if I'd like being here as much as I thought I would. Now that I'm here, I have no regrets about choosing Tulane. In my first few weeks at Tulane, I joined TUSTEP and I hope to become more involved in a few more clubs in the future. I'm studying Political Science and Homeland Security, and my goal for the future is to get a job in the counterterrorism field.
