The very first class I took at Tulane on day one was my English class. There were 14 students in my class and we were from 14 different states. We all learned so much about each other. That’s how college should be; you learn the most when you learn from people who are different from you.
The fact that no one thinks twice about costuming in this town. Whether it’s the Gay Easter Parade, the Running of the Bulls, the Red Dress Run, simply tell a New Orleanian when and where, and they’ll show up in a costume, no questions asked.
Stop worrying so much about what you think colleges want to see. Take classes you actually enjoy, get involved in extracurricular activities that resonate with you and don’t spend your entire high school career just doing things because you think colleges want to see them.
