Our minor in Music Science and Technology explores intersections between music, physics, mathematics, and computer science, with a focus on creative applications of technology in the creation of music. The program encourages creativity both in technical research and in composition for various media and performance. Objectives include developing innovative approaches to the scientific and artistic study of music media, undertaking multidisciplinary research relevant to the creation and perception of music, and fostering an interdisciplinary culture between musicians and scientists.
Our students are able to undertake research in areas such as musical signal processing, sound synthesis and analysis, computer/electro-acoustic music composition, musical performance systems design, music perception, and psychoacoustics. Our expanding composition facilities include a dedicated teaching laboratory with twelve student computer workstations (DAWs) and an 8-channel digital studio.
