Tulane offers a 5-year joint Bachelor of Science in Management (BSM) degree in the area of your choice while earning a Master of Accounting (MAACT) degree during your fourth and fifth years of this five-year program.

The MACCT program’s core courses provide academic rigor in auditing, financial accounting, managerial accounting and taxation. The program’s flexible structure gives students the option of adding a concentration in Finance, Energy or Taxation and ensures that students qualify to sit for the CPA exam in the state where they intend to work. Students earn real-world experience via a full-time, paid, busy-season (spring) internship in the city and state where they ultimately want to work.  The internship also counts for three hours of academic credit toward the 30 required for graduation from the MACCT program. Analytical thinking skills are developed  through experiential learning in all courses – Socratic discussions, case studies, group projects are all part of the coursework. Ethical issues in accounting are also woven into class discussions. Tulane MACCT program boasts a world-class faculty who are exceptional teachers and active researchers. The faculty have hands-on industry experience in areas such as investment banking, revenue authority, private tax practice, and expert testimony for litigation, which they integrate in the classroom. A business communications course and assignments in other courses further develop students’ written and oral communication skills.

Students have the option to complete their service learning requirement through certain classes offered through the Freeman School of Business. Past examples include:

Legal Studies – Students partnered with a local organization, Court Watch NOLA. Through this partnership, students became familiar with courtroom procedure and acquired research, investigation, and analytical skills through courtroom observation and data collection.

Management of Technology and Innovation – Students completed an Eco Challenge Project utilizing the latest technologies to develop a plan to have the metropolitan New Orleans area run on totally renewable energy. The public service added to their knowledge and experience seeing firsthand the needs of the community and what the challenges are to transform the city to a sustainable area.

Cases in Financial Management – Students completed extensive research and built lesson plans to teach core elements of financial literacy to high school students.

Professional staff from the career management center (CMC) provide students with career education programs and counselling that respond to the current market and help students develop and manage their career. Services offered by the CMC include individual career coaching, assistance in developing effective cover letters and resumes, mock interviews, workshops on exploring and navigating the job market. Ardent competition for Tulane MACCT students means that MACCT graduates are very successful in pursuing careers with the major public accounting firms as well as private industry.
