The teacher certification program is a coordinate program and must be paired with a major program of study.
Tulane’s Teacher Preparation and Certification Program (TPCP) offers post-baccalaureate students an opportunity to earn a Louisiana teaching certification in Early Childhood Education (grades PK-3rd) and Secondary Education (grades 6th-12th) in the following content fields: English, mathematics, social studies, science (physics, chemistry, or biology) and foreign language (German, French, Spanish, Italian, and Latin). Undergraduate students can take education courses while earning their degree and then complete a fifth year for the final clinical experience. Tulane also offers a BA in Psychology and Early Childhood Education. TPCP was developed in accordance with national accreditation and Louisiana academic standards. The primary goal is to produce rigorous certification programs that balance the import of disciplinary content knowledge with the teaching skills and dispositions needed to apply that content knowledge in diverse settings. The program incorporates the rigor of a Bachelor’s degree from one of the participating departments with educational theory and methods coursework based on the best available research on teaching and learning.
